Following the overwhelming success of the Apla Pune Cyclothon, the spirit of cycling continued with an inspiring Cycle Donation Event organized collaboratively by the Dorabjee Charitable Trust and Loha Foundation. Held at iRise Banquets, the event focused on distributing bicycles to children from orphanages under the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Maharashtra, emphasizing empowerment through mobility.
The occasion was graced by Chief Guest Shri Krishna Prakash, IPS, ADG Force One, who lauded the initiative, stating, “Giving a child a bicycle is not just a gift of convenience, it’s a gift of freedom. This noble effort will help them dream bigger and reach further.”
Other esteemed dignitaries included Shri Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Joint Commissioner, Pune Police, Shri Vasant Mhaske, Retired IGR, and Shri Sanjay Mane, Divisional Deputy Commissioner, WCD. Speaking on the significance of such efforts, Shri Mane said, “Today’s event beautifully blends compassion and action. By enabling mobility, we’re giving children access to education, community, and confidence — this is true child welfare in motion.”
From the Dorabjee Charitable Trust, heartfelt contributions and personal involvement were seen from Shri Jehangir Dorabjee, Mrs. Firoza Dorabjee, Shri Daniel Dorabjee, Ms. Shreya Dorabjee, and their dedicated team. Speaking with warmth and empathy, Mrs. Firoza Dorabjee shared, “Every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported. It is our privilege to contribute in a way that brings joy and makes a tangible difference in their everyday lives.” Shri Jehangir Dorabjee added, “If a bicycle can help them get to school, pursue a hobby, or simply smile, we are happy to be a part of that journey.”
The Loha Foundation, represented by Ms. Sanjana Lall, Mr. Ravindra Wani, Smt. Rajashree Wani, and Ms. Sushma Koppikar, played a key role in execution. Mr. Wani remarked, “Each cycle handed over today is a step toward equity. We are proud to support this mission and will continue working for meaningful social impact, especially for children in need.” Ms. Lall added, “This event is not just about donating bicycles — it’s about building confidence, inspiring independence, and creating equal opportunities.”
The welcome speech set the tone for the evening, noting that “a cycle is not merely a mode of transport — it’s a symbol of independence, a pathway to dreams, and a vehicle of joy.”
Also in attendance were Ms. Manisha Biraris, District Officer, heads of institutions, and teams from the Women and Child Development Department, who ensured seamless coordination. The children, full of joy and enthusiasm, were the true heart of the evening — receiving not just cycles but also encouragement and recognition.
As the event concluded, a sense of shared purpose and celebration filled the air. The Cycle Donation Event proved once again that when communities unite with compassion and action, the wheels of change move forward — turning pedals, changing futures.
